Position Summary
West End School is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and hardworking Part-Time Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, families, and visitors.
The Part-Time Custodian is responsible for performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic facility-support duties throughout the school.
The ideal candidate is reliable, takes pride in their work, works well independently, notices areas that require attention, and consistently follows established cleaning and safety procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
- Clean and restock restrooms.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, ledges, and other surfaces.
- Clean doors, entry areas, and interior glass as assigned.
- Respond to spills and other immediate cleaning needs.
- Maintain clean and organized custodial storage areas.
- Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings, programs, and school events.
- Move tables, chairs, supplies, and other equipment as needed.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and according to established procedures.
- Report maintenance concerns, leaks, broken equipment, pest activity, safety hazards, or other facility concerns to school administration.
- Monitor custodial supplies and communicate when items need to be reordered.
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with students, staff, families, and visitors.
- Perform other reasonable custodial or facility-support duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, building maintenance, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to safely use common cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and custodial equipment.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned responsibilities without continual supervision.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff and administration.
- Willingness to learn and follow West End School cleaning, safety, and facility procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous custodial experience in a school, childcare facility, healthcare facility, commercial building, or similar environment.
- Experience using commercial custodial or floor-care equipment.
- Knowledge of appropriate cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
- Experience working around children or within a school setting.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety and chemical-handling practices.
- Experience assisting with basic building or facility maintenance.

Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to perform the physical functions normally associated with custodial work, including standing and walking for extended periods, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and performing repetitive cleaning activities.

Schedule
This is a part-time position. Work hours will be established based on the operational needs of West End School and may include afternoon or evening hours following the regular school day.
Occasional additional hours may be available or required for special events, school breaks, deep cleaning, or other facility needs.
